Success Story of F’IS-Voith Paper Cooperation Continues

Major order for fine paper machine with more than 1,200 sensors from China – Complete corrugating medium production line for Thuringia Herzogenrath,

October 8, 2004 – The partnership between FAG Industrial Services GmbH (F’IS) and Voith Paper Automation, a division of Heidenheim-based Voith Paper, continues on its successful course. In a cooperative agreement signed early last year, the two companies had announced their intention to pursue the integration of the F’IS online vibration monitoring system VibroCheck into the complete, web-based process monitoring system of Voith paper machines. The latest order for a fine paper machine with fully integrated process control and monitoring system has been received from China. Designed for a production width of 10.8 meters, the machine will be shipped later this year and installed in Jiangsu Province, approx. 220 km to the west of Shanghai in 2005. According to the Herzogenrath condition monitoring experts, the new machine is equipped with one of the most comprehensive online monitoring systems worldwide, consisting of five Vibro­Check basic units (256 channels each) and more than 1,200 sensors. Thus F’IS is further expanding its service capacities in the rapidly growing Chinese market.

Almost at the same time the two cooperation partners received another order for a complete corrugating medium production line from German paper manufacturer Adolf Jass. The new production line including stock preparation system and winder will also be equipped with the F’IS online monitoring system and will be set up by Voith as a greenfield plant in the German town of Rudolstadt-Schwarza, Thuringia.

The successful cooperation of the two internationally operating companies is attributable to the fact that the unplanned shutdown of production facilities causes extremely high costs, especially in the paper industry. Now as before the continuous online monitoring of vibration and temperatures in combination with the diagnosis through correspondingly trained experts represents the most reliable method of detecting pending failure in these machines at an early stage.
