Smart Performance Program: Cost Savings thanks to clever Lubrication Concept
Higher level of plant availability at Hollitzer Baustoffwerke
The Smart Performance Program of Schaeffler Group Industrial saves Baustoffwerke Hollitzer in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg, Austria, about 450,000 Euro a year. The leading provider of ready mixed concrete, gravel, crushed rock and sand repeatedly had to shut down its vibrating screens due to problems caused by insufficient bearing lubrication. A solution was now provided by FAG Industrial Services (F'IS), the service company of the Schaeffler Group Industrial, with headquarters in Herzogenrath near Aachen, in the form of a professional lubrication system.
Not only the old vibrating screens had failed repeatedly due to poor bearing lubrication, but also the vibrating screen that had first been put into operation in August 2006. What is special about that plant, which is exposed to rough environmental conditions, are the heavily oscillating motions of the screen's arms. Those motions might have caused the so-called bleeding effect - i.e. separation of the lubricant components - resulting in the loss of the lubricating effect. Moreover, no empirical data regarding the secure fit of the tube fastening elements was available.
So Hollitzer concluded a maintenance contract with service specialist F'IS. The F'IS experts installed a Motion Guard CONCEPT6 multi point lubrication system, which was filled with FAG Arcanol MULTITOP grease and mounted into a protective box. It supplies six lubricating points with grease at the same time. The system soon proved to be a success: ever since, the plant has been running without problems. The customer has had another four lubrication systems installed and is planning to have more sub-assemblies equipped with them. This enables the customer to realize significant savings amounting to about EUR 450,000 a year. These comprise following points: The repairs for each breakdown would take ten hours. At an hourly overhauling rate of 2000 Euro per machine, this would amount to repair cost of 100,000 Euro. Lost production would cost 70 000 Euro per breakdown, giving a total of 350,000 Euro. In addition to the verifiable financial savings, the customer's maintenance expenditure is considerably reduced by the automatic lubrication system.
