F'IS Optimises the Tensioning and Alignment of Belt Drives
The new FAG products SMARTY2 and TRUMMY2 reliably prevent bearing damage and extend the service life of belt drives
Herzogenrath, October 08, 2007. - FAG Industrial Services (F'IS) has extended the range of functions offered by its proven duo - SMARTY2 and TRUMMY2 - for aligning and tensioning belt drives. The new functions make these precision instruments even easier to use and even more user-friendly. They reduce wear and tear on the drive components, cut energy costs and increase a plant's cost efficiency.
FAG Top Laser SMARTY2 measures and adjusts the parallelism of drive and pulleys significantly faster and more accurately than is possible with conventional methods. Thanks to its new, optional real time digital display of readings, belt drives are now aligned even more accurately. The accurate alignment of drive and belt pulleys reduces friction, which means less wear on belts, belt pulleys, bearings and seals. SMARTY2 thus creates an important precondition for ensuring a longer service life, lower energy costs and a higher cost efficiency.
FAG TRUMMY2 is a high-precision optoelectronic measuring instrument for optimising belt tension. Its improved design enables users to perform measurements with one hand. TRUMMY2 consists of a measurement probe and a sturdy handheld control unit. Additionally, it comes with a cable probe for hard to access areas. Relevant measurables are shown in the display either as frequency (Hz) or as force (N). To calculate the optimum strand force (belt tensioning force) for a drive, the belt mass and length are entered into the instrument. This measuring technology is significantly superior to other methods - such as measurement by means of sound waves - as the measurement result is not distorted by disruptive external influences. The optimised belt tension increases the service life of the belt drive. Moreover, it prevents potential consequential damage to rolling bearings, seals and shafts caused by an excessively high belt tension. In this way, costly unplanned downtime is minimised.
FAG Industrial Services GmbH (F'IS) Headquartered in Herzogenrath near Aachen, FAG Industrial Services GmbH (F'IS) offers its services, service products and training all about maintenance on a manufacturer-independent basis, helping customers to save on maintenance costs, optimize machine availability and avoid unexpected machine downtime. F'IS takes responsibility for the Schaeffler Group's worldwide service business regarding the INA and FAG brands. In 2006, the Schaeffler Group employed a workforce of about 63,000 at 185 locations worldwide and generated sales of Euro 8.3 billion with its three brands INA, LuK and FAG.
