F'IS: Infrared Thermography For Preventive Maintenance

Herzogenrath, May 09, 2007 - With infrared thermography Schaeffler subsidiary FAG Industrial Services GmbH (F'IS) provides a new service that permits early damage detection and efficient maintenance planning. This technology detects anomalies that are invisible to the naked eye. In this way, the necessary countermeasures can be initiated before an actual disruption can occur. This helps to avoid expensive production losses and costly consequential damage.
The compact, powerful infrared cameras can be used to take thermal images of machines while in operation. Thermography provides a complete picture of the situation and helps users identify and pinpoint emerging damage. Moreover, the cameras can record video images that can be used for a more detailed analysis. This additional analysis option is indispensable in many applications, for example the inspection of movable components such as motors, conveyor belts etc.
Especially in the monitoring of rotating machine elements - for example rolling bearings - thermography is a useful supplement to vibration measurement. If infrared thermography reveals irregularities in a thermal image, a more specific measurement with a vibration measurement system and analysis of the results not only provides additional information about the affected part of the machine but also about the potential development of a damage. The F'IS maintenance experts offer a wide, innovative range of vibration measuring products, for example the handheld vibration measuring device FAG Detector III and the online monitoring system FAG ProCheck. Customers can have the measured data analysed at the certified F'IS Service Center in Herzogenrath, benefiting from the experience of F'IS experts.
